If Vivek Ramaswamy wins the Republican nomination for president in 2024, he has promised to pardon all nonviolent January 6 demonstrators.

After criticizing the US Justice Department for its “political persecution” of non-violent demonstrators at the Republican primary presidential debate last month, the 38-year-old Indian American entrepreneur earned notoriety.

What Ramaswamy Said?

“America now has a two-tiered judicial system: peaceful January 6 demonstrators detained without bail while Antifa and BLM rioters roam free. Over 1,000 people have detained by Biden’s “Department of Injustice” for nonviolent crimes connected to January 6, he said in a statement, “casting a dark shadow over Lady Justice and the cornerstones of our legal system.”

“I pledge as president to pardon any Americans who were the focus of politicized federal prosecutions and those who were denied due process in order to bring this nation together. He added on Wednesday, “This includes all peaceful, non-violent January 6 demonstrators who were denied their constitutional due process rights.

As Congress confirmed the results of the 2020 election, in which President Joe Biden beat Donald Trump, more than 2,000 protestors stormed the US Capitol on January 6.

Following Trump’s address at a rally not far from the Capitol grounds, the crowd assaulted the building. In his address, Trump accused the election of rigged and urged Mike Pence, who was vice president at the time, to annul the results.

The incident sparked the largest police investigation in US history, which resulted in hundreds of people charged with crimes.

Ramaswamy pledged to stop the militarization of police force in the United States and said that every Republican contender needed to be unambiguous on difficult subjects.

According to a survey released by the Trump Campaign, Ramaswamy is currently in a distant second place to former president Trump (68%) with 15% of the vote. Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, is now in third place with 13% of the vote.
