“Between Brains and Ballads”

Between Brains and Ballads. Suhana and Siara grew up together—inseparable, like ink and paper. Suhana was the “brain”—quick, meticulous, always scoring top marks. Siara was the “drain”—not because she was untalented, but because she tended to let her ideals fall through the cracks. Both girls grew up in the same small town but looked at the world differently. Suhana wanted to be a scientist and receive a scholarship overseas. Siara, however, dreamed of singing. When Suhana was awarded a scholarship to study in Germany, the town cheered. Siara clapped, smiled. As she was leaving, Suhana had said, “Brains make plans. But dreams? They need belief. You have a gift, Siara. Don’t drain it away.” Years went by. One day, Suhana watched a viral video—a voice singing her childhood lullaby. It was Siara, singing at a concert on a hilltop, her eyes shut, heart open. Suhana texted her, “I listened to my brain. You listened to your drain. And guess what? We both flowed into something beautiful.”
