When actors get stuck in a certain image in films, it becomes difficult to break out of it. Actor Salman Khan may now have the image of an action hero, but when he started working in films, his image was that of a romantic hero through films like ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’.
Actor and director Puneet Issar took the responsibility of changing this with the film ‘Garv’. In an interview, Puneet Issar says that ‘Garv: Pride and Honour’ (2004) was my first directorial film. Salman Khan and I have been friends, we have worked together a lot. I was writing something those days. He had told me to recite what I had written.
Puneet further says that before that I had made ‘Hindustani’, ‘Jai Mata Ki’ serials, which were superhits. He knew that I direct. When I wrote the story of the film ‘Garv’, he liked it. But he wondered why I had come to him.
According to Punit, “I believe that actors are like unbridled horses. A horse does not allow anyone to sit on it until it knows that the person sitting on it is a good rider. Salman is a friend of friends. He made me an A-lister director with this film.”
