The G20 conference may have skipped by Chinese President Xi Jinping due to the escalating tensions between India and China along their disputed Himalayan border, further aggravating the situation. By joining the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue with Japan and Australia to combat China’s expanding influence, India has also bolstered its defense relations with the US, according to Bloomberg.

India’s reaction on China and Taiwan?

Senior Indian government sources claim that India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direction, is considering possible reactions to a fictitious Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

About six weeks ago, Defence Chief General Anil Chauhan ordered a study to evaluate the wider implications of a Taiwan confrontation involving the US and its allies as well as India’s possible responses in such a scenario. After the US brought up the problem in a number of venues, this action taken.

The project attempts to assess several war hypotheses and provide India choices in the event of a conflict. Strong words may be sufficient as a reaction, according to some Indian military leaders, but more decisive action may required if the conflict lasts longer, like Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The challenges of India’s “multi-alignment” policy highlighted by its preparations, particularly if US-China ties drastically deteriorate. India has taken its own course in international affairs under PM Modi’s direction by forging close connections with the US while shunning involvement in UN sanctions against Russia.

One possibility under consideration is for India to act as a logistical base, offering facilities for the upkeep and repair of ally warships and planes as well as supplies for the forces against China, such as food, gasoline, and medical gear. The Indian armed forces have ordered to hasten the process of creating alternatives.

Both nations have deployed sizable military forces close to the unmarked boundary, maintaining the tense situation at the India-China frontier. Limited progress has made in diplomatic talks, and India has been careful not to appear to forge a military alliance with the US. While three former Indian military commanders recently visited Taiwan, India subtly worked to strengthen ties with that country.
