According to US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) CEO Mukesh Aghi, the Canadian government’s accusations that India was involved in the execution of a pro-Khalistan leader continue to lack credibility. Aghi, who was present at the UN General Assembly meeting, claimed that the controversy over Canada’s accusations had mostly subsided. In an interview, he said that because the US has significant political and economic interests in India, it has mostly decided to keep quiet about the charges.

What did you think of the dialogue and environment at this high-level UN General Assembly meeting?

The absence of powerful presidents and prime ministers was one thing. The Indian prime minister wasn’t present. Putin or President Xi were absent. As a result, there was a leadership gap at the UN. That was the initial event. Second, unlike the previous year, Ukraine was not the hot topic. additional climate change and the Global South’s need for additional UN changes are hence the pressing challenges. Finances for climate change and women’s empowerment were discussed.

The cacophony has subsided, for starters. The charges made by Canada against India did not stick. People perceived this to be more of a political tactic than a defense of Canada’s national interests, a country that enjoys positive ties with a developing power. And despite the absence of any supporting proof, many saw Trudeau sacrificing that. If you look at history, Americans also invaded Pakistan at the same time and captured Osama bin Laden. Those people defeated Saddam Hussein. And you observe the initiatives made to remove Fidel Castro and others. Therefore, I believe that nations do behave in their own best interests. The fact that Canada was utilizing the Khalistanis as a platform for a vote bank rather than seeking to regulate them became very evident. Therefore, I believe that the Canadians’ level of trustworthiness throughout my exchanges was quite low.
