Home Ministry tries to calm the transporters and truck drivers who are protesting against the new hit-and-run law.

All India Motor Transport Congress Chairman Kultaran Singh Atwal alleged that though the transporters have called off the strike after the conference with the Home Ministry Spokesperson, transport bodies in the Additional States will carry on with the strike.

As transporters from each part of the nation strike labor to gripe over the increase in penalty in hit-and-run cases that is up now to be put into practice, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) organized a conference with the All India Motor Transport Congress on January 2.

An apex administration source clarifies that if a driver by mistake hits someone and conversant to the police force on time, then he or she will face a minor penalty of five years. The period of punishment in such cases has been amplified up to 10 years as the remarks completed by the Supreme Court, another administrative officer alleged.

“The Supreme Court has affirmed in several cases that firm action should be taken in opposition to drivers who uncontrollably drive automobiles, cause calamity ensuing in someone’s demise, and then run away from the sight. If a person straight away informs the police about the calamity caused, the person will not be charged under clause 106(2). Instead, the individual will be charged under Section 106(1), where the punishment is less, which is, up to five years, and is a bailable offense. Section 106(2) is a non-bailable offense,” the other administrative officer alleged.

Hope the strike will come to an end soon and the transporters and the truck drivers will be back to work.
