Users of Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome will soon be able to “save the frame,” or take a snapshot of a YouTube video in its original PNG format and resolution. According to Bleeping Computer, Google has now included a new function that lets users store video frames directly, after the introduction of a “copy video frame” option on YouTube.

Also included in the Microsoft Edge Canary release is this additional capability. Chrome expert Leopeva64 said on X, “Chromium developers added this new entry a few days ago. The new option to SAVE frames from YouTube videos already works in Edge Canary.” The latest versions of Chromium have brought about save frame integration. It enables users to preserve the precise resolution of the video while saving individual frames in PNG format.

Developers of Chromium also want to provide a new functionality that will let users “Search video frame with (a specified search provider)”. In the meanwhile, YouTube is launching a new AI chatbot that will allow you to ask questions about the video you’re viewing and receive responses along with suggestions for more material without pausing playing. In addition to providing answers to your inquiries regarding videos, the conversational AI tool makes suggestions for relevant material. Two studies that include generative AI into the YouTube viewing experience are being tested. Google stated on a support website that “you might not see them just yet because these experiments are very small.”
