Grave reality of unemployment

Online job scams demonstrate the Grave Reality of the unemployment situation in India.

Recently in Bhopal itself, more than 100 cases are reported, where in the name of giving job opportunities or online loan disbursement, people are trapped leading to the whole family’s suicide. More recently a family of four was trapped in an online job scam, where recruiters ask for money in the name of investment.

Bhupendra Vishwakarma age 38, worked at TATA AIG company, while remaining in the job, he used to join a fraudulent Columbia-based company that offered online jobs and contacted Bhupendra through whatsapp and Telegram platforms. Bhupendra accepted and start doing the online job, later on in the name of investment, the company asked for money from him to invest into it.

Gradually all his savings were lost, and then the fraudulent company ask to get a loan for investment, he got an online loan, further invested in the company itself. When Bhupendra was not able to pay his dues, loan recovery agents tried to exploit him while threatening him to circulate his and his family members morphed images, if he didn’t repay the loan amount. Hence due to loan repayment pressure, Bhupendra and his family kill themselves while attempting suicide.

What the incident suggest:

This incident shows us the grave reality of increasing unemployment and how fraudulent companies taking advantage of it. In this case, the two primary concerns are there, exploitation by digital lending apps and the offering of work-from-home job opportunities by fraudulent companies. This trend rises when the pandemic necessitated financial emergencies and limited access to banks in the hour of need, this resulted in the emergence of many fake and illegal lending apps. Similarly, due to rising population and the pandemic-induced shutdowns, disrupted employment opportunities further. This leads to a situation where people are ready to do whatever they used to offer to earn their livelihood, and thus, trapped in an employment cage, tend to ruin their whole life.

WHAT GOVERNMENTS HAVE DONE:

-RBI regulatory guidelines became operative to regulate digital lending apps.

-People can report fraud at www.cybercrime.gov or to dial at1039.

-Can take cyber experts guidance at various Platforms, etc.

HOW WE CAN SAVE OURSELVES FROM THESE FRAUDS:

According to,  cybersecurity experts, be extra cautious while clicking on unknown links, and never share your OTP and other passwords with anybody other than an authorized body like your bank, while searching for jobs always check the company’s authenticity then apply for it, report to cybersecurity experts through government portals, etc.

Hence, The recent case of Bhupendra Vishwakarma is another eye-opener for us, showing, how the rising unemployment allows frauds to increase. And to take advantage of it and ruined thousands of innocent people and their families lives. thus, there is an urgent need to take steps in this direction while educating people, giving them enough employment opportunities, and more importantly providing opportunities to them to broaden their skill sets according to the today’s industrial needs.
