Series of Earthquakes Hit Nepal, Felt Strongly in Delhi – Details Here

Tuesday’s several earthquakes that struck Nepal—a 4.6 and 6.2 magnitude quake that occurred within 25 minutes of one another, a third that was 3.8 magnitude 15 minutes later, and a fourth that was 3.1 magnitude 13 minutes later, at 3.19 PM IST—felt strongly in Delhi.
At 2.25 PM, the first earthquake occurred. The National Centre for Seismology reports that around 3.27 PM IST, there was a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Arunachal Pradesh and a 3.3 magnitude disturbance in Uttarakhand.

The strongest earthquake’s center was 284 kilometers north of Lucknow and 206 kilometers southeast of Joshimath in Uttarakhand. “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.2, Occurred on 03-10-2023, 14:51:04 IST, Lat: 29.39 & Long: 81.23, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Nepal,” the NCS said on X (previously Twitter).

Delhi and neighboring areas of the national capital region witnessed the effects of the earthquake. After the second earthquake, many in Delhi-NCR reported feeling significant tremors and left office buildings. Social media inundated with videos of people fleeing out of buildings.

“We wish you all well. Do not panic, but do please exit your buildings and gather in a safe area. AVOID USING ELEVATORS! Call 112 if you need immediate assistance, the Delhi Police said in a statement.

In 30 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Hapur, and Amroha, tremors detected. Five of the districts that border Nepal experienced earthquakes. Several locations in Uttarakhand also felt earthquakes. According to the news agency PTI, tremors also reported in Chandigarh, Jaipur, and other northern Indian cities.

So far, there have been no reports of harm, injuries, or fatalities coming out of Nepal.

Following a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Meghalaya on Monday, tremors detected in Assam and other north-east states. It struck around 6:15 PM. The North Garo Hills, three kilometers from Resubelpara, the district’s administrative center.
