Madhya Pradesh polls: BJP showcases party bench strength by naming three Union ministers, four MPs, and a national general secretary in the second list for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls With BJP naming one more candidate Monika Batti from Amanwara (ST) seat for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections on September 26, Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan said BJP is on its way to victory in the state.

Many leaders in the ruling party were looking forward to establishing their sons in electoral politics this season. But that may not be possible, especially with BJP’s second list packed with Union ministers and heavyweights. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah railing at dynastic politics and ‘parivaar-waad’, it’s unlikely that the state BJP will give tickets to father-son duos.

BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, fielded from Indore-1, candidly said that he did not want to jeopardize the political career of his son, Indore-3 MLA Akash Vijayvargiya.

“We had a feeling that Vijayvargiya may contest, but the fielding of Union ministers was a surprise. To be honest, we don’t know who will be the next CM now,”

Till now BJP has named 76 candidates but there are 154 seats still up for grabs. The first list with 39 names was released on August 18.

Following by-polls due to legislators switching sides after the rebellion, the BJP now has 126 seats in the House, while the Congress has 96.

Devendra Singh Tomar, the son of Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, was also an aspirant. He has been an active BJP worker in Gwalior city and some rural assembly seats in Morena.
