According to police sources, at the last G20 conference in Delhi, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s security staff allegedly caused ‘unease’ among Indian security agencies when they forbade him from staying in a hotel’s presidential suite. The presidential suite reserved just for the chief of state for the meeting, according to the police.

In New Delhi, Trudeau and his group stayed at the Lalit Hotel. According to sources, in accordance with the Delhi Police’s security measures for presidents and other international leaders, a separate suite reserved for him throughout the summit. The Canadian Prime Minister, according to reports, did not remain in the suite; instead, his security detail reserved a regular room for him.

“The security personnel for the Prime Minister make all such judgments. They told repeatedly that the presidential suite appropriate for their leader but they refused. They can have their own motives, said a police officer who asked to remain unnamed.

Senior ambassadors from both India and Canada removed as a result of Trudeau’s comments about a “potential link” between “agents of the Government of India” and the murder of Khalistan rebel Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Additionally, he said that at the G20 conference, he had discussed the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

All of the Lutyens hotels staffed with security and special cell teams from the Delhi Police during the summit. Officers said that within the hotels, separate areas had set out for heads of state and their entourages. Different arrangements made, according to the police, because the Canadian security team wouldn’t accept the accommodation.
