India vs. Pakistan 2023: Why did Shreyas Iyer sit out today?

In a worrying sign for India ahead of the 50-over World Cup, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who made a comeback for the Asia Cup was forced to miss the Super G game against India vs. Pakistan because of back spasms. It is understood that Shreyas felt the spasms minutes before the toss, prompting captain Rohit Sharma to hurriedly head down the stairs and have a conversation with head coach Rahul Dravid. And when the team sheets were exchanged at the toss, Shreyas was replaced by KL Rahul, who joined the team only on Wednesday, after clearing a fitness test in Bengaluru. In his only game in the group stage of the Asia Cup, Shreyas made 14 before he was caught while playing a pull shot off Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf.

The match will resume from the same point on reserve day which is Monday. India is playing at 147/5 in 24.1 overs with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul leading India’s innings. Shadab Khan was bowling when the match was interrupted and he is expected to resume the attack on Monday. Rohit and Shubman stitched a rollicking 122-run opening stand. After their departures, KL Rahul (17) and Virat Kohli (8) were about to steady India when rain stopped play.
