Aamir Khan announced that he will remake the Spanish film Campeones. He had announced that he will not feature in the movie but produce it. Reportedly, earlier Aamir Khan was supposed to headline the film but he after Laal Singh Chaddha failed he stepped out. The actor continued to stick to the project as a producer and passed the role to Salman Khan. However, things didn’t materialize and new updates suggest that Ranbir Kapoor will now lead the sports drama.

Aamir Khan wanted Salman Khan to make the film, but the script failed to impress the actor. Bhaijaan came on board and was eager to take the role. However, he did not like the script and demanded a revised version. According to reports, the team was working on a revision, and by the time it came, Salman Khan was signing other projects and leaving Campeones. However, Aamir Khan did not give up on his ambitious project and approached Ranbir Kapoor.

Ranbir Kapoor comes in. Aamir approached Ranbir, who had announced a temporary retirement from films. The actor has not started working on any project since Animal Shoot wrapped up. His last film Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar worked both in theatres and on OTT.

Interestingly, Ranbir already has a sports biopic in his kitty. The actor will be seen portraying the role of Sourav Ganguly on-screen. Thus, if he accepts Aamir’s film, it would be his second sports drama.

Speaking of the Campeones, directed by Javier Fresher and released in 2018, Campeones was a comedy-drama film that highlighted the story of a basketball coach who works with a team of mentally disabled players as part of his community service. Ranbir is doing some interesting films. He is consciously choosing varied scripts.
