Pakistan’s ploy to present a globally banned terrorist as a ‘common man’ has come under fire after a top official of the neighboring country revealed crucial information about Hafiz Abdul Rauf in public. The information provided by the Pakistani official included Rauf’s national identification number, which matches the details present in the ‘database’ of the list of banned terrorists in the US.
Addressing reporters, Director General of Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry described Rauf as a common man with three daughters and a son. Rauf had offered prayers for the terrorists killed at the Lashkar-e-Taiba headquarters in Mudrika, Punjab, Pakistani during ‘Operation Sindoor’. While addressing reporters, Chaudhry gave his (Rauf’s) computerized national identity card number, his date of birth as March 25, 1973, and described him as a resident of Lahore.
The identity information shared by the ISPR director general closely matches that of Hafiz Abdul Rauf, who has been a member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s senior leadership since at least 1999 and is part of the US sanctions list
