Following the recent war between Israel and Hamas, an important development has surfaced that would affect India’s economy. According to VOA, Israel has started a hiring drive that might result in the recruitment of up to one lakh Indian workers.
This effort is a response to the 90,000 Palestinian laborers who had their work licenses revoked after hostilities, forcing them to relocate. In a previous correspondence, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sympathy for Israel during the crisis and called for a united front against terrorism with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu.
The shift in Israel’s labor market, which now favours Indian labor, expected to significantly boost remittances to India, improving the financial status of Indians working outside. Amidst the conflict, this new economic strategy can seen as a chance to forge closer commercial ties between Israel and India.
Israel’s latest policy shift is consistent with India’s abstention from voting at the UNGA. The resolution demanded that the Israel-Hamas conflict halt immediately. India’s decision is indicative of a solid and expanding friendship with Israel. Since 1992, this partnership has been thriving. The two countries established official diplomatic relations in that same year. Trade has been especially important in strengthening the Indo-Israeli relationship, with India turning into a major buyer of Israeli defense products. The strengthening of bilateral relationships between the leaders has greatly aided by their connection, as demonstrated by Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit to Israel in 2017, which was the first of its kind for an Indian head of state.
