Need to get over mentality that ‘West is the evil guy’, says S. Jaishankar.

S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, stated that there was a need to overcome the “syndrome” of viewing the West negatively and that it was not the “bad guy” since it was not massively flooding the marketplaces of Asia and Africa with commodities.

The tremendous influx of commodities into Asia and Africa not caused by the West. The old mentality that the West is the evil guy and the developing world is on the other side needs to go, in my opinion. The minister answered, “The world is more intricate, and the issues are considerably more convoluted than that.

T. P. Sreenivasan, a former Indian diplomat, spoke with the minister for the channel.

Mr. Jaishankar said that the reasons for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s absence from the G-20 meeting in New Delhi were up for speculation when asked whether China did not want India to viewed as the leader of the Global South.

In an indirect reference to Chinese trade and economic policies, he said that the problem with today was the development of a strong sense over the last 15 to 20 years about the injustices of globalization, where countries saw their products, manufacturing, and employment under stress due to the flood of low-cost goods into their markets.

According to the minister, these nations’ underlying bitterness and grief over the state of the world economy had been building up for the previous 15 to 20 years, and the COVID-19 epidemic and the crisis in the Ukraine contributed to higher costs for food and energy.
