Shah Rukh Khan’s first theatrical release may have been the 1992 film Deewana but director Ketan Mehta recently revealed that Maya Memsaab was the first film that SRK shot for. He recalled the time when Shah Rukh Khan’s mother was in critical condition when they had to shoot in Shimla. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Ketan said that Shah Rukh Khan landed up in Shimla to avoid delaying the film’s shoot.
The entire film unit had already reached Shimla. Despite his mother’s critical condition, SRK was full of positive energy and the director thanked him for his professionalism and his work commitments.SRK’s mother Lateef Fatima passed away in 1991 in Delhi over a month after she was diagnosed with diabetes. His father Mir Taj Mohammed Khan died of throat cancer in 1981 just hours after he was back brought back home from the hospital.
Ketan Mehta further revealed that Shah Rukh was recommended by Aziz Mirza and Saeed Mirza since he had worked with them in the television show Circus. They were looking for a newcomer and the director realised that SRK’s energy was simply infectious.
“It was an instant liking and we decided to cast him. The snowstorm was the first scene that we shot for,” he shared. The director further added that SRK was full of energy and wanted to prove himself.
