Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Monday, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.Chasing a target of 171, CSK got off to a slow start, losing Ruturaj Gaikwad (26) and Devon Conway (25) in the powerplay. However, Ajinkya Rahane (42) and Shivam Dube (32) put on a crucial partnership of 67 runs to get the team back on track.
LAST 2 BALL TO 10 RUN 6 AND 4 RUN WINNING
With 26 runs needed off the last two overs, it looked like GT would pull off a victory. However, Ravindra Jadeja hit a six and a four off Mohit Sharma in the last over to help CSK win the match with one ball to spare.
Jadeja was named the player of the match for his unbeaten 22 off 12 balls. He also took two wickets with the ball.
With this win, CSK equalled Mumbai Indians’ record of five IPL titles. The team was led by MS Dhoni, who is expected to retire from cricket after this season.
GT’s Batting Collapse
GT got off to a good start, with Wriddhiman Saha (54) and Shubman Gill (39) putting on 67 runs for the first wicket. However, the team’s batting collapsed after that, as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Only Sai Sudharsan (96) could provide any resistance, as GT finished on 214 for four in their 20 overs.
CSK’s Bowling Performance
CSK’s bowlers bowled well throughout the innings, with Dwayne Bravo (2/24) and Deepak Chahar (2/36) being the pick of the bowlers.
The team’s fielding was also excellent, with Moeen Ali taking a brilliant catch to dismiss Gill.
Overall, it was a thrilling final that was decided in the last ball. CSK deserved to win the match, as they played better cricket on the day.
