Congress leader falls for fake news, tweets about the demise of Sumitra Mahajan . On Friday he spoke to former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s son and he apologized for the tweet which was wrongly talked about the BJP veteran’s death. On Friday, Mr.Tharoor said in a tweet, “Spoke to Sumitra Mahajan’s son to convey my sincere apologies at last night’s misinformation. He was very gracious and understanding person .The Central Government of India and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla should take note of this ,the BJP veteran said in the clip.
In another tweet , the senior Congress leader apologized for falling for the fake news and wished her a “long life”. “i am relieved if that is so. I received this from what I thought was a reliable source. Happy to retract & appalled that anyone would make up such news,” Tharoor said in another tweet . Meanwhile, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargia wrote in Hindi that “Mahajan is healthy and fine . May god give her a long life”(roughly translated from Hindi).
The loksabha speaker herself reacted to the false news saying, “how could news channels run a report on my so called demise without even cross checking with the Indore administration ‘My niece refuted Mr Tharoor on twitter but what was the urgency in announcing without confirmation’ “she added”. In a tweet at 11:16 pm on Thursday night, Shashi Tharoor sid, “Saddened to learn of the passing of former LokSabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan”. I remember many positive interactions when she &the late Sushma Swaraj asked me to lead a Parliamentary delegations to BRICS in MOSCOW. My condolences to her family &prayers : Om Shanti! . Ms. Mahajan popularly known as “Tai'(elder sister in Marathi) had represented the Indore Lok Sabha seat eight times in a row from 1989 to 2014. The former Lok Sabha speaker younger son Mandar also put a video clip .
