The former Minneapolis Police officer who knelt on George Floyd’s neck for more than 9 minutes last year was found guilty . Derek Chauvin age is 45 . He was convicted of second degree unintentional murder , third-degree murder and second -degree manslaughter . However wearing a mask inside the Hennepin country courthouse in Minneapolis , Derek Chauvin had no apparent reaction to the guilty verdict . Afterward his bail was revoked and he was placed in handcuffs and removed from the court through a side door .

when George Floyd was killed by the police in Minneapolis in the last may, the case drew comparisons to the death of Eric Garner six years earlier in the New York . The two men uttered the same dying words to the police officers forcefully restraining them: “I can’t breathe.” Chauvin was born on March 19, 1976 . His mother was a housewife and his father was a certified public accountant . when he was seven , his parents divorced and were granted joint custody of him . Chauvin attended Park High School in Cottage Grove , Minnesota , but did not finish and later obtained a GED certificate .On 29 may he was arrested and charged with a degree unintentional murder and lesser included offenses .

Chauvin was released on bail on October 7,2020 . His murder trial began on March 8, 2021 in the Minnesota Fourth Judicial District Court and concluded on April 20 with the jury finding him guilty on all three charges of second degree. Chauvin was a member of the MPD from 2001 to 2020, and had graduated from Metropolitan State University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement. In July 2020 ,after the murder charges were brought against him ,Chauvin and his then-wife were separately charged with multiple felony counts of tax evasion . Kellie may’s lawyer said at the time she was devasted by Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies .
