Aisa Cup 2023: Sri Lanka is all out for 50 runs. It is the lowest score for an ODI team in the Asia Cup 2023, surpassing Bangladesh’s total of 87 against Pakistan in 2000. Mohammed Siraj was at his brutal best under the overcast conditions in Colombo, picking up six wickets in his opening spell.
Asia Cup 2023 After Siraj was taken off the attack, Hardik Pandya picked up the remaining three wickets to fold Sri Lanka for just 50 runs. It is the lowest score for an ODI team in the Asia Cup 2023, surpassing Bangladesh’s total of 87 against Pakistan in 2000.
Siraj completed his five-wicket haul in his next over, in just 16 balls, the joint-fastest by a bowler alongside Sri Lanka legend Chaminda Vaas in ODI cricket. And later completed his six-fer in the 12th over by dismissing Kusal Mendis. The right-arm pacer eventually finished with 6 for 21, the best figure by an Indian bowler in an Asia Cup2023 (ODI) match and second-best overall after Ajantha Mendis’ 6 for 13 against India in Karachi in 2008. It is also the best figure against Sri Lanka in an ODI match, surpassing Waqar Younis’ 6/26 in Sharjah in 1990.
Sri Lanka has been very impressive in the Asia Cup 2023 despite entering the World Cup after winning the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. In the Super 4, Sri Lanka lost a closely-fought match against India before shocking Pakistan in a rain-hit match to reach the final. In front of cheering home fans, Sri Lanka’s batters showed poor commitment and paid the price for questionable shot selection against two of the best pacers in the world.
