After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Indian government terminated the Indus Water Treaty
There is a wave of anger and grief in India due to the death of 26 people in the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a big meeting of CCS on Wednesday, in which it was decided to end the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan immediately. This treaty was signed on 19 September 1960. According to this India got the rights of Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej. At the same time, Pakistan got permission to use the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab. Pakistan is dependent on river water these days. This decision of India can deepen the water crisis in Pakistan. Many of its hydro projects can be closed. The power crisis can deepen. The economic condition of Pakistan, which is already poor, can become even worse.
Pakistanis will have to leave India within a week
India has taken many more strict steps after the Indus Water Treaty. India has also closed the Attari border. After India’s strict step, those who have crossed the border with valid certificates can return from that route before May 1. Apart from this, India has declared the defense, military, naval, and air advisors of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi as undesirable persons.
