In an editorial article for The Washington Post, US President Joe Biden rejected the growing demands for a ceasefire in Gaza, claiming that it would just provide them more time to restock on weapons and fighters rather than lead to peace.
“A cease-fire is not peace as long as Hamas adheres to its philosophy of destruction. Every cease-fire is an opportunity for Hamas militants to replenish their missile arsenal, rearrange fighters, and resume their murdering spree against innocent people, according to The Post. He also stated, “Our goal should not be simply to stop the war for today — it should be to end the war forever, break the cycle of unceasing violence, and build something stronger in Gaza and across the Middle East so that history does not keep repeating itself.” Also, the US President urged Israel to adhere to humanitarian law and reduce the number of civilian casualties, stating that while in Tel Aviv, he gave advice to Israeli leaders “against letting their hurt and rage mislead them into making mistakes we ourselves have made in the past.”
“The only solution is a two-state solution.” : Biden.
The only way to resolve the ongoing strife in the region, in Joe Biden’s opinion, is through a two-state solution. He asserted that the Palestinian Authority need to be in charge of government. “Gaza and the West Bank should brought back together under a single governing body, eventually a revived Palestinian Authority, as we all work towards a two-state solution,” the statement reads. In addition, the US President addressed the problem of extreme violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, expressing alarm among authorities and stating that the US is ready to deny visas to anyone who engage in such behavior. “I have emphatic with Israel’s leaders that extremist violence against Palestinians in the West Bank must stop and that those committing the violence must held accountable,” Biden wrote in the Washington Post.
According to CNN, the warning arose out of concerns that Israel may have violated the Visa Waiver Program, which has been in place since late October and permits qualified individuals to enter the US without a visa. In a proposed package, the Biden administration asked Congress for more than USD 105 billion last month in order to provide security support for the wars in Israel and Ukraine.
